Shepard Fairey, a contemporary artist born in 1970 in Charleston, is renowned for his bold visual style and politically engaged messages. He is famous for works such as the iconic face of André the Giant , known as the Obey Giant His creations are artistic explorations of celebrity, mass consumption and civil disobedience.
Fairey is also a visual activist, using his art to raise awareness about issues of social justice, human rights, and freedom of expression. His "Hope" campaign for Barack Obama has become iconic. He also created the brand of "Obey Clothing" clothing inspired by his artistic work.
