Shepard Fairey, contemporary artist born in 1970 in Charleston, is renowned for his bold visual style and his political messages. He is famous for works such as the iconic face of Andre the Giant, known as Obey Giant. His creations are artistic explorations of celebrity, mass consumption and civil disobedience.
Fairey is also a visual activist, using his art to raise awareness of issues of social justice, human rights and freedom of expression. His “Hope” campaign for Barack Obama has become iconic. He also created the clothing brand "Obey Clothing" inspired by his artistic work.
Collaborating with renowned art institutions and exhibiting his work in museums around the world, Shepard Fairey remains an influential artist who inspires, provokes thought and celebrates creativity in all its forms.
